The best DistroKid alternatives for Portuguese and Brazilian artists
DistroKid is the distributor independent artists use most, but it is not the only way onto Spotify. For artists in Portugal, Brazil and Portuguese-speaking Africa, three things weigh more than the price: what happens to your music if you stop paying, which language support answers in, and how you pay.
This guide is by Distroline. The other distributors' figures come from their own official pages, linked alongside.
What happens if you stop paying
DistroKid is a yearly subscription, from €23.99 a year on the Musician plan (official pricing). According to DistroKid's help centre, if you do not renew, your music is removed from streaming services, except releases you added the paid Leave a Legacy extra to.
Other distributors work differently. CD Baby charges once per release with no yearly fee (official pricing). On Distroline, if you cancel a paid plan you move to Free and your music stays online.
Which language support answers in
When a release is stuck in review or a payment does not arrive, you want to explain it in your own language. Distroline is made in Portugal and answers in Portuguese and English, Monday to Saturday, at apoio@distroline.com.
How you pay
On Distroline you pay by card, MB WAY in Portugal or Pix in Brazil, and Brazil and Portuguese-speaking Africa have regional prices.
The alternatives, one by one
- Distroline: a Free plan with a 10% commission, or Coliseu at €14.99 a year to keep 100% of royalties, with Content ID included. Your music stays online if you stop paying.
- CD Baby: $9.99 per single and $14.99 per album, paid once, and CD Baby keeps 9% of digital revenue (official pricing).
- Amuse: from $23.99 a year, with 100% of royalties and a 15% fee on YouTube Content ID on the cheapest plan (official pricing).
