Afrohouse, kizomba, kuduro, semba and funaná now reach listeners in Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Portugal, France and Brazil through streaming. To be there, you need a distributor that delivers your music to Spotify, Boomplay and the other stores. This guide explains how.

Why streaming matters for these genres

Much of the audience for these genres lives far from where the music is made: a producer in Luanda or Praia has listeners in Lisbon, Paris or Boston. Streaming puts the music in the same place for all of them. Spotify has been available in Angola since 2021, and Boomplay is widely used in several African countries.

The stores Distroline delivers to

Distroline delivers to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Boomplay, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, Deezer, Amazon Music, Anghami and other stores. You choose the stores when you create the release. We do not deliver to Audiomack today.

How to distribute

  1. Create a free account at distroline.com.
  2. Upload the audio as WAV or FLAC (MP3 is accepted too).
  3. Add the 3000x3000 pixel artwork and the metadata: title, artists, songwriters and credits.
  4. Choose the right genre. A well-chosen genre helps stores and playlists find the right audience.
  5. Submit. The release is reviewed and usually reaches the stores in 7 to 10 days.

How to earn from your music

  • Streaming: each store pays for plays. On Spotify, a track only generates recorded royalties with at least 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months.
  • YouTube: with Content ID, you get paid when other people use your music in videos. It is included in the Coliseu plan.
  • Songwriting royalties: the composition earns its own income, collected by rights societies. Register with your country's society to receive it.

To see when and how you get paid, read music royalties: when and how you get paid.

What it costs

The Free plan costs €0 and we keep 10% of royalties. In Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste, Coliseu costs €4.99 a year and you keep 100%. Our team speaks Portuguese and answers Monday to Saturday.
